A Message from the ISCA President
Hello Colleagues,
We’ve officially entered the last quarter of the year. Like many of you, I’ve started reflecting on the past months—reviewing my numbers against my goals, evaluating what worked well in the office, and identifying where improvements can be made.
Something I’ve noticed is how easy it is to let the mundane, day-to-day tasks weigh down the excitement of the incredible things happening in practice. For example, tasks like restocking supplies or keeping up with office maintenance can sometimes overshadow the fact that you just helped a patient sleep through the night for the first time in days—or that you gave a new mom the ability to pick up her newborn without pain for the first time since delivery.
After 2020, when we all navigated the challenges of practicing during a pandemic, I realized how burned out I had become. I love being a chiropractor, but I often found myself asking, “What’s next?” and even wondering if it was time to walk away from the profession I’ve dedicated 17 years to. What I discovered is that the many hats we wear—doctor, business owner, manager, problem solver—can distract us from the wins that actually fuel us. Since that realization, I’ve made it a priority to simplify wherever possible and focus on the wins that keep me inspired.
So, why am I sharing these morning coffee reflections with you? Because as I close out my first year as ISCA president, I realize I haven’t done the same thing with membership. I’ve never put together a polished “elevator speech” explaining why ISCA membership matters. My simplified answer? Because it’s the right thing to do.
Just like antivirus software quietly protects your computer in the background, the ISCA works behind the scenes to protect our profession. We monitor legislation, ensure chiropractic is included in policy discussions, and make sure your voice is represented at the state level. We offer online continuing education in one convenient place. We provide forums to connect with colleagues, so private practice doesn’t feel so isolating. And when you have an idea or a concern, the ISCA gives you a platform to turn it into action.
With gratitude,
Derek Dyer, D.C.
